In the heart of the picturesque and lively Pigneto, my flat is a bright and cosy place. An easy commute to Rome city centre, the apartment is perfect for a couple or small family who want to experience the charm of a village and the beauties of Rome
My apartment is located at the 4th floor of a yellow house which was built around 1946. The flat has warm, wooden floors and due to its east facing windows, is extremely bright with sunlight. The living area is an open space composed of an entrance way lined with big book shelves, a cosy sitting room with a sofa-bed, a comfy old armchair and a fully equipped kitchen. There is also a colourful bathroom with a shower and all the facilities. The double bedroom is spacious and has a nice wooden Japanese traditional tatami, a large desk, a big wardrobe, a mirror and a chest of drawers. From the bedroom you can access to the beautiful terrace, where you can read a book surrounded by the plants and the sounds of the city, have a lovely meal when the weather is good (in Rome it is sunny the most of the time), or just look at the Roman sunset with its orange light that illuminates a unique view of the city.
Pigneto is a popular Roman neighbourhood located between Via Prenestina and Via Casilina. It has undergone great changes in the past ten years; once a left, antifascist quarter during the Second World War, then a popular area inhabited by train workers, then the set of Pasolini and Rossellini black and white Neorealist cinema. Today the area is a lively, cultural centre for young people and artists. During the day you can walk through the colourful and leafy streets, tasting the Roman traditional daily life by buying (or just smelling) super fresh fruits and veg at the daily, cheap local market just down the road, or stopping for a cappuccino or a delicious ice-cream in one of the many cafés (I would recommend Yeti Café in Via Perugia 4 and the incredible ice-cream shop in front of it). At night you can have an ‘aperitivo’, a glass of wine or cocktail with sharing platters, admiring the amount of people filling the streets and populating the urban environment. In the evenings Pigneto becomes a real meeting place, where you can dance, socialise, or just eat traditional Roman food in both cheap or more sophisticated restaurants. It’s the perfect place for unforgettable nights, but it is also well connected to Rome City Centre if you prefer to spend the day or the night there and then come back by tram, bus or taxi.
The house will be entirely at your disposal.
At your arrival you will be welcomed by me or some friend of mine. In any case we can speak english and we will be glad to explain you how to use everything in the house and how to enjoy the neighbourhood. Bed linens and towels are provided.
A truly authentic Roman neighborhood, characterised by a mix of narrow black stone Sanpietrini cobbled streets and wide boulevards. For a little high culture, head to the Basilica of San Giovanni and the nearby Scala Santa (Holy Steps) which were supposed to have been the steps that Jesus walked on before his trial with Pontius Pilate and were transferred to Rome from Jerusalem in the 4th century. For a place to enjoy a peaceful walk or a quiet sit down, the Appia Antica Park is an ideal haven away from the noise of the city and is filled with archeological monuments and large trees. The Terme di Caracalla is one of Rome’s most awe-inspiring ruins, with the 1800-year old complex once being Emperor Caracalla’s bath house, gym and library. Shopping lovers can find a brilliant selection of outlets on the Via Appia Nuova and browse unique stalls at the lively Via Sannio flea market
If you are looking for a traditional Italian trattoria restaurant, then head to Trattoria re di Roma for friendly service and tasty dishes. Alternatively, try Fame for a no-frills menu of excellent Italian food. Sbanco opened in 2016 and has quickly established itself and one of the best modern wood fired pizzerias in the city. For a great aperitivo or late night drink, try Romeo e Giulietta, where you can enjoy high class cocktails in a modern setting. Alternatively, head to Bibenda Wine Concept where real wine buffs can marvel at the extensive wine list from ITaly and across Europe.
